Get Started With Radio Controlled Boat
Posted by haapy in Uncategorized, tags: X family X hobbies X home X outdoors X radio controlled boats X rc boats X recreationWhen you are in a place where you are thinking about picking up a radio controlled boat, there are going to be a few things that you need to consider. First, where are you going to be using it? If you are working in a small six by six pond, now is not the time to get that three-foot yacht! Also consider whether you are planning to use the boat on your own or if you are looking for something that is geared for competition. You will also find that you should discover the power that you need your boat to have. You are going to be able to choose between electric power, Nitro-power and gasoline powered radio controlled boats. If you are so inclined, consider a boat kit, which will give you the added pride of being able to say that you built your boat yourself.
The Electric RC boat
When you are dealing with an electric RC boat, you are going to find that it is powered by six to twelve rechargeable nicad batteries. When you have an electric radio controlled boat fully charged, you will find that it runs for about fifteen minutes. You can get electric boats that range in style from sailboat to Viking longships, and you can even find models that are made for racing if you are so inclined.
The Nitro-Power Radio Controlled Boat
Nitro-powered radio controlled boats are faster and more expensive than electric RC boats. Not only are the boats themselves more costly but the fuel the Nitro-powered boats burn is also more expensive than electrical boats. On the other hand when burning nitro methane these boats run longer on the water then the electrical boats.
The Gasoline Powered Radio Controlled Boat
Gas powered radio controlled boats generally are the biggest of the three types of RC controlled boats. These boats are more costly than the electric boats but not as expensive to operate as the Nitro-powered boats. Therefore, this puts them in the middle as far as expense goes. The gas powered radio controlled boat has a longer running time than either of the other types. This type of boat has a weed eater motor to push it across the water.
When you are looking at the speed that you can get from your radio controlled boat, you’ll find that it can run upwards of sixty miles an hour. The speed is going to be dependent on the hull, the size of the motor and the person operating the boat. For instance, depending on the expertise of the captain, one person might be able to get 45 mph out of the boat, while another can make it pull out a full 50 mph.
The International Modal Power Boat Association was formed in 1949, and this was the organization that came to regulate the sport of radio controlled boat racing today. They are the ones who currently set the guidelines.
As you can see, there are many things a person should consider before purchasing a boat. If you are looking for a recreational boat, you can go with the electrical powered boat. However, if you are looking for competition, you should use the gas or nitro-powered boat.
